Equipment
used:
Video Cameras: Three video cameras were set up in the mansion. One,
placed in Mary's
room, facing out into the hallway at the top of the main staircase, it was set up to record at home base. The other two, one
in the rear of the basement, facing down the hallway towards the main entrance, and the other in Widder's room on the
3rd floor, shooting from the only window in the room, down the hallway to the area that the Knights Templar used for their
lockers.
All three cameras were equipped with infrared illuminators.
There were also camcorders
carried by a couple of the investigators. Vic took used a camera as he investigated the house, with an eye on showcasing
CPEAR's investigative techniques.
Digital Voice Recorders (DVR): Just about every investigator had their
own DVR, which were used in an attempt to pick up EVPs.
Digital Cameras: Several digital cameras were used to
take photos
throughout the night.
Digital Thermometer Gun: This gun shot out a red beam, similar to a
laser pointer. The gun then digitally recorded the temperate of the item it was aimed at.
K2 Meters: Used to
read EMF fluctuations.
New Equipment Used:
CPEAR used a variety of new equipment during the investigation
of the Houghton Mansion. This new equipment
included the 360 voice recorder, KIII meter, and the EMF meter that also
tells instant temperatures while recording the highest emfs.
All three pieces of equipment were used throughout
the investigation and in
several different parts of the mansion.
Some
claims of activity:
A little
girl has been seen in the basement. She goes my the name of Laura. People have also heard the sound of giggling and have seen
shadows in the basement.
Shadow
figures have been seen in numerous places of the mansion, doors are always heard slamming shut, and numerous EVPs have been
caught on digital recorder in many places of the mansion.
The
Investigation:
Various members of the Berkshire Paranormal group would spend the night, but generally
stayed out of the way, following an hour long tour of the mansion.
After the equipment was set up, the investigators
split up into groups and
spent roughly an hour roaming the mansion, trying to get the lay of the land.
The
group was then split up into two or three person teams, with a group on every floor, including the basement. At least one
person constantly watched the monitor.
The groups were rotated throughout the whole mansion at hour intervals.
About a quarter of the way into the investigation, it was determined that there was a significant amount of activity
in the basement and little throughout the rest of the mansion. About three quarters of the group went down to the basement,
while the rest of CPEAR manned the monitor and investigated other areas of the mansion.
Approximately an hour
and a half later, the groups returned together and again continued to investigate the whole mansion in the smaller groups.
At about midnight, the Berkshire Paranormal group ordered out for food and CPEAR took a break for a late night
dinner.
The investigations continued until about 4 a.m. At this time, the investigators went about on their own,
with some going to sleep and others continuing to investigate.
Group members slept in differing rooms throughout
the mansion. At least two investigators stayed up all night and continued their investigations through the time CPEAR began
to pack up at 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.
CPEAR lost an hour of investigation time due to daylight savings time.
The majority of the activity witnessed was found in the basement, though there was some activity in other parts
of the mansion.
Investigators Personal Experiences:
Several
of the CPEAR investigators had their own personal experiences while investigating the Houghton Mansion. Some of the experiences
were backed up by taped evidence, though some was not.
The following is each investigator's experiences in
their own words.
Ed Harris: I felt that I was touched by an unseen presence
twice during
the investigation. The first time was in Mary's room, while I was sitting in
the "psychic
chair." While sitting there, with my arms on the
armrests and away from my body, I felt a quick tap on my left
thigh. This was during the initial period where we roamed around the mansion to better acquaint ourselves with its layout.
Later on, I felt another tap on my left thigh while in the cellar. Once again,
my arms were away from my
body and no other investigator was near enough to have bumped into or touched me.
I also had a few sightings of
random flashes of light while in the basement.
One involved a quick flash of white light between two pipes in the ceiling.
The light was too deep in the cellar to have been headlights from a car and the light was like a quick flash of a flashlight,
not the steady stream that
accompanies car headlights. Other people would also report seeing these lights.
The other lights I was resembled the red specs emitted from a laser pointer.
They lasted for a second or two and disappeared.
To the best of my knowledge, there were no smoke detectors located in the basement. Others would see these light in the basement
and other parts of the mansion.
Ray Mafera & Vic Feldesy:
While investigating with Ed in the basement, we all experienced the feeling of being touched
by something that wasn't there. Ray said he felt someone pull on his ear. Vic Said he was touched several times on the
legs and the back of his neck. They also saw the occasional specs of light.
Alec
Arbour:My personal experiences, aside from the random noises and
knocks, were seeing the tiny light sparkles
floating around, the feeling of
being touched on the arm twice in the basement, and when we were in the
basement
and the flashlight got turned on for a split second, I saw the little
girl that likes to stay down there (my description
of her was verified by the 2
Berkshire Paranormal members when I told them what I saw and what she looked like). Later
after everyone else was asleep Chuck and I also heard footsteps and what sounded like a little girl giggling.
Mike Mafera and Carrie Kerns: The only experience that I (Mike) had was
on the 2nd floor
when I was coming out of the room across from Mary's room, I thought I saw a ball of light shoot across the hallway. I
only saw it for a split sec. Also heard the occasional door slam throughout the night.
There
was another instance when John Graham and I (Mike) were investigating on the 3rd floor when we heard someone walking fast
on the stairs. We called down to see who it was and didn't get an answer. We walked down to the floor under us and asked
a couple of members of Berkshire Paranormal if they saw anyone and they said no, but they heard the footsteps.
While sleeping in the 2nd floor room that appeared like an office room with a lot of children's
toys in it Mike and I (Carrie) were woken up around 6 a.m. by the sound across the room of some papers loudly rustling around
- it lasted about 2-3 minutes then stopped completely. Mike looked around and said he didn't see anything or anyone that
would be making that noise.
I also experienced while downstairs the occasional quick
glowing of a red light from different spots in one of the basement rooms when sitting around waiting for "laura".
Unfortunately I did not check to look for any smoke detectors in the rooms to see if it possibly could've been the blinking
red light of the smoke detector if there were any down there.
I did see one of the
red flashing orb in one of the hallways off the kitchen and I did look at the ceiling for a smoke detector and there wasn't
anything there.
I had also heard the loud bang from a door around 5:30 a.m. I had figured
it was from someone downstairs going in or out of the building but Alec stated they were awake and heard the door slam and
nobody in the building at the time was known to have closed any doors. From what I know - nobody personally saw the door close
by itself so I personally dismiss that finding as anything paranormal. Could've been some kids outside banging on the
door and running for all I know - they were up and running around the streets at 5 a.m., Carrie said.
