Here is a story someone
sent to our email - I went
on the internet to see if I could find any information regarding the Nathan Hale Homestead, and whether or not anyone had
ever reported that it was haunted. The reason being, I know of a situation wherein a man was murdered in the house back
around the turn of the last century. My great grandmother's sister was renting the house with her husband. Another
couple that lived near by came to visit and the two men got into a card game that turned nasty. They were both drunk,
someone was cheating in the card game, so one of the men picked up an axe and killed the other. The women dragged the
body and through him in a ditch along side of the dirt road. They moved a wood pile, burried the axe (I believe in the
dirt cellar), and moved the wood back over it. The next day when the police came looking for the murdered man, the women
got nervous, dug up the axe, burned the handle in the wood stove and threw the axe head in Coventry Lake. The man was
later found in the ditch and it was assumed that he had been run over by a horse and buggy. My grandmother remembers
her aunt constantly threatening her husband that he better do as she says or she will turn him in to the police. I think
he may be the person haunting the house. This has been a HUGE secret in my family, but I don't see any harm now that
all of the parties have passed on. Unfortunately I don't know his name, but I could probably find out through the town
property records, and death registers. Just thought you may want to know this. Georgia
