Founders of the group
Connecticut
Paranormal Encounters and Research (CPEAR) was formed in January 2008 by Carrie Kerns and Mike Mafera. The couple met online
and shared their mutual interest in the paranormal which would eventually lead to a relationship and the formation of CPEAR. Like
many other paranormal investigators, Kerns and Mafera experienced ghostly incidents in their childhoods, which have led them
to search for answers with the hopes of helping others who may be faced with experiences that they also do not understand.
The main focus of CPEAR is to help people better understand what
they are experiencing and to help them feel safe and comfortable in their own homes.
Upon its formation, CPEAR was a family based group, including Mafera’s father Ray, who had experience ghost hunting
with Mike since early 2000. Kerns teenage son Tyler was also a part of CPEAR since its inception. More members were added
as the group progressed. Currently, CPEAR has 13 active investigators, with several other people on the prospective members
list who routinely contribute on larger investigations.
Originally only utilizing a digital camera and a voice recorder, CPEAR’s arsenal has grown to include infrared and night
vision camcorders, DVR monitoring stations and numerous other technological devices aimed at capturing paranormal activity
in a scientific manner.
"Our team has a strong bond with a strong sense of trust
and commitment.
As a group we take pride in helping those in need and in search for answers as well as educating the public about the
paranormal, our investigative team, as well as evidence of the paranormal."
